Parent makes 'buddy bench' for Keith Primary School pupils

A PARENT of two Keith Primary pupils has hand-crafted a 'buddy bench' for the school's younger learners.
The idea is for the primary one and two children at the school to sit on the bench when they are feeling sad or lonely – giving their class mates the chance to cheer them up.
Keith Primary School's depute head Suzanne Ross spoke with a Playground Action Group back in 2018 and they came up with the buddy bench idea.
Pupils were asked to come up with a design for the bench with parent Peter Scott – whose children Lexi and Bobby attend the school – hand-crafting it over the course of the last year.
Mr Scott said: "The school was interested in having a bench and I volunteered to make it about a year ago.
"I do this sort of thing as a hobby, which I started four years ago. The bench had been on the go or about a year before I finally got it finished.
"It hasn't taken me a year to make it but I wasn't well and then lockdown hit.
"Altogether it took about four days worth of work, doing a bit here and there. The school are chuffed."
There is no cost involved for the school, for materials or time, with Robbie Bruce thanked by Mr Scott for donating the wood which was used to create the bench.
Depute head Mrs Ross added: "We are all delighted with the end result – not only does it brighten up our playground space but it will serve a really important purpose too.
"Pupils can sit here if they are felling sad or lonely and this way staff and other pupils will know that they are looking for a bit of TLC and friendship.
"Mr Scott is an absolute star and we are so grateful for all his hard work."
