One death and 68 cases of coronavirus confirmed in Moray within the last week

A MORAY resident has died as a result of Covid-19, taking the area's death toll since the outbreak began to 40.

The resident tested positive for Covid-19 before passing away.

Of the 40 people to have died coronavirus-related deaths in Moray, 30 have tested positive for Covid-19 and passed away within 28 days, while 10 had the virus mentioned on their death certificate.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Moray continues to rise, with 68 confirmed since last Wednesday's update. That's an increase on the 49 cases confirmed last week and takes the area's total to 1638 since the outbreak began.

Moray currently has the worst rate of Covid-19 per head of population in Scotland, with more than 70 cases per 100,000 people.

The number of negative tests confirmed in Moray since April 27 is 709, which is a big rise on the 447 negative cases confirmed in last week's update.

NHS Grampian – which includes Moray, Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City – has now confirmed 15,068 cases of coronavirus since the outbreak began. That's an increase of 133 on the 14,935 reported last week, meaning Moray accounts for more than half of NHS Grampian's coronavirus cases.

Ten 'neighbourhood areas' in Moray reported a confirmed case of coronavirus between April 26 and May 2.

The majority of the area's cases are centred around Elgin.

The area's biggest town confirmed a total of 45 cases of the virus between April 26 and May 2 (Elgin Central West 12; Bishopmill West and Newfield 12; New Elgin East 7; Elgin Cathedral to Ashgrove and Pinefield 6; New Elgin West 4; Bishopmill East to Ladyhill 4).

It was also confirmed yesterday that Elgin Academy has been associated with 46 cases of the virus since April 10.

Lossiemouth confirmed seven cases of the virus (all Lossiemouth West), while Heldon West, Fogwatt to Inchberry (eight) and Lhanbryde, Urquhart, Pitgavney and seaward (nine) and Burghead, Roseisle and Laich (five) also confirmed cases.

An area will only appear if at least three cases of the virus have been confirmed. None of Forres, Keith or Buckie appear on the map.

Scotland-wide update

During the week ending May 5, 18,810 people were newly-tested for Covid-19 with 1046 testing positive for the first time. This is down from the 1545 who tested positive last week from 21,323 tests.

Since the outbreak began, 1,929,575 people in Scotland have been tested at least once, with 226,729 positive and 1,702,846 negative.

During the week ending May 2, 19 deaths were registered where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

As of May 2, Scotland's death toll is 10,097. A total of 7660 people have died after testing positive for Covid-19.

A total of 13 people are in intensive care in relation to Covid-19, with 69 patients in hospital.

In total, 15,523 patients who have tested positive for Covid-19 have been released from hospital since March 5, 2020.
