Air passengers are being urged to check their flights before travel after Storm Amy sparked a string of cancellations in and out of north airports.

Numerous flights in and out of Inverness and Aberdeen’s airports were not flying on Saturday morning, as the gale force winds continued to rage and an amber weather warning remained in force.

At the time of writing, the 10.20am and 11.45am arrivals into Inverness Airport from Stornoway and Sumburgh were both cancelled.

And departures from the Dalcross airfield to Amsterdam (6.25am), Gatwick (7am), Sumburgh (7.40am) and Stornoway 10.50am) were also not flying.

It was a similar picture over at Aberdeen Airport, with a string of cancellations reported.

The 6am Amsterdam, 6am Heathrow, 6.05am Gatwick, 7am Sumburgh, 8.25am Jersey, 10.05am Kirkwall, 10.35am Amsterdam, and 11.25am Heathrow departures were all not flying on Saturday morning.

Arrivals were also impacted, with the 9.35am from Sumburgh, 10am from Amsterdam, 10.30am from Heathrow, and 12.20pm from Kirkwall all grounded at the time of writing.

Airlines are by no means the only form of transport impacted by Storm Amy. Fallen trees wrought havoc on roads across northern Scotland overnight, with several A-roads closed either at the time of writing or earlier in the night.

Ferries and the rail network are also severely impacted, with ScotRail warning that line closures will continue into Saturday morning - indeed, no fewer than 830 separate train journeys were showing as cancelled today.
