Aberdeenshire MP Richard Thomson has said the North-east is a ‘core component’ of Scotland’s drive towards becoming a net zero nation by 2045.

The SNP MP was speaking following a meeting between MPs, the UK Energy Minister, and representatives from companies involved in carbon capture and clean energy.

Mr Thomson has previously given his backing to the Scottish Cluster Campaign, a cross-community, cross-business group which aims to create a unified voice for Scotland to progress along our decarbonisation journey, calling on the Scottish and UK Governments to take the actions needed for CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage), hydrogen and other low carbon technologies to play their full part in meeting net zero goals.

The Scottish Cluster is backed by a wide range of advocates from industry and across local and regional communities, including Aberdeenshire Council, Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce, along with the Scottish Government.

Member of Parliament for Gordon Richard Thomson said: “The north-east is a core component of Scotland’s drive towards Net Zero by 2045.

"The Vision for Scotland outlines how the Scottish Cluster and other Scottish low-carbon innovators are powering this drive, which will create and sustain jobs to enable a Just Transition for our oil and gas sector.”
