North-east farmers invited to tree planting info day in Tomintoul

Farmers in Moray, Grampian and Strathspey who are interested in growing trees as part of their farming business are being invited to a Walking and Talking Trees event in Tomintoul.
The free event is part of the Integrating Trees Network, which is an initiative led by farmers, and supported by Scottish Forestry and the Scottish Government.
Farmers Debbie and Andrew Duffus of Mains of Auchriachan in Tomintoul, will be inviting other farmers to take a tour with them on their farm to discuss the benefits of tree planting.
The event takes place on Tuesday, August 16 between 10am – 1pm.
Scottish Forestry’s forestry and farming development officer Lyn White said: “The Integrating Trees Network has proved very popular with farmers and crofters because of its informal yet informative approach.
“The events put farmers in touch with other farmers where they can chat over tree planting experiences with no hard sell.
"Farmers can see and hear first-hand from others who have successfully grown trees to boost their business.
"Then it is up to the farmer if they think growing trees is for them.”
Andy and Debbie run a 1540 hectare tenanted hill harm.
During the tour they will discuss about their family's new venture into woodland creation.
This will include their initial thought process, the decision to plant trees, objectives, challenges and benefits to the business, which included more shelter for livestock, less feed costs and better productivity.
