North-east awards ceremony announces finalists

The finalists have been announced for the 2022 Celebrate Aberdeen Awards – the event which recognises and celebrates the huge contribution which the third sector makes to thousands of lives across Aberdeen City and Shire.
Returning for the first time since 2019, due to the impact of Covid, the awards ceremony is the second "Celebrate Aberdeen with Baker Hughes" event taking place this year, following on from the Union Street parade which will take place on August 27.
The winners of the 11 categories will be announced at a gala event which will be held at P&J Live on September 17. Thanks to the generosity and financial support of sponsors, all finalists and their guests will attend the evening event for free.
Celebrate Aberdeen volunteer Emily Findlay said: “We were blown away by the number of nominations we received for these awards, but even more so by the calibre of the submissions.
“They demonstrated that during the tough and challenging times so many faced over the past three years, an incredible amount of fantastic work by charities, social enterprises, voluntary groups and individuals went on throughout.
“This will be the third time these awards have taken place and we always receive truly inspiring entries. This year’s entries show however that over the course of the past few years, everyone has gone that bit further to help and support people who needed it the most.
“Every application we received would have been a worthy winner and the judges had an extremely difficult task to choose just three finalists in each category, and we can’t thank them enough.”
Brenda Clark, vice president of corporate Affairs, oilfield equipment at Baker Hughes said: “There is an impressive line-up of finalists this year, and this event is an opportunity to showcase what they have been doing to support the community.
"The third sector is a lifeline for so many people, and as a long-time supporter of community events across the region, we are delighted that we are supporting the Celebrate Aberdeen with Baker Hughes event this year and bringing the achievements of all these groups to the fore.”
Celebrate Aberdeen headline sponsor this year is Baker Hughes and returning again as gold sponsors are CNOOC International and CNR International.
