The sun shone on volunteers as they gathered at Mountblairy to plant trees as part of the Queen’s platinum jubilee celebrations.

Organised by Alvah and Forglen Community Council, around 2000 trees were planted as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy project, which is encouraging people across the country to enhance the environment by planting a tree to commemorate the jubilee and create a legacy to benefit future generations.

Community council members were joined throughout their planting weekend by numerous local residents as well as MP David Duguid and Lord Lieutenant of Banffshire Andrew Simpson.

Alvah and Forglen Community Council were kindly allocated 2.8 acres of land by Mountblairy Estate and acquired the trees thanks to support from Woodlands Trust and funding from Brydock Windfarm.

To celebrate the success of their woodland planting, the group intend to hold a community picnic later in the year.

Schools, community groups, businesses and individuals across the north-east have already joined the Queen’s Green Canopy, with more planning to join in the coming weeks.
