New thriller filmed in Portsoy hits screens

A movie that shot scenes in Portsoy is released today.
Thriller Repression, which was formerly known as Marionette, saw its film crew descend on locations across the north-east in November 2018.
The coast and the harbour area at Portsoy provided a backdrop for scenes.
In the film's trailer below, released by Signature Entertainment, main character Marianne, who is portrayed by Thekla Reuten, is seen in atmospheric scenes in the coastal community.
The film also stars Peter Mullan, Rebecca Front and Bill Paterson.
The synposis from Signature Entertainment said: "Repression is a gripping and twisty Hitchcock-esque thriller set in Scotland with a stellar British cast, including Peter Mullan and Rebecca Front.
"When therapist Marianne moves to a remote area of Scotland, her attempts at a new life are thrown off course by one of her patients, 10-year-old Manny who claims he can see and control her future.
"Marianne struggles against both the wall of silence from her colleagues and her own mind as she tries to uncover the truth behind Manny’s drawings."
Young Manny is played by Elijah Wolf.
Other filming locations in the north-east included Abergeldie Castle in Ballater and Blairs Museum, Sunnybank Primary and the beach in Aberdeen.
The movie is available on digital platforms and DVD from Monday, September 28.
Portsoy has become popular with film-makers with the 2016 remake of Whisky Galore! shot in the town, and scenes for the new Peaky Blinders TV series were due to be filmed in the community during the summer but have been put on hold for the moment due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Peter Mullan was part of the cast for BBC TV drama Stonemouth, which was filmed in Banff and Macduff in 2014.
