A new service to support the health and wellbeing of people living throughout Aberdeenshire has been launched.

Live Life Well Aberdeenshire offers information, activities and programmes which can help people improve their lives.

It is aimed at people living with a long-term condition, recovering from illness or injury, or have been inactive and want to improve their health and wellbeing.

One-to-one support can be given to help people start, or continue, on a journey towards improved health and wellbeing.

For those who prefer to self-manage their activity there is advice, information and opportunities available to support them along the way.

The programmes on offer, working in partnership with the Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Partnership, include support for people with long-term conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or diabetes (type 2) and people who are living in care homes or very sheltered housing complexes, to optimise their health and wellbeing.

Move More Aberdeenshire is a partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support offering a programme of physical activity opportunities for those living with or affected by cancer.

Aberdeenshire Health Walks, supported by Paths for All, is a programme offering people an opportunity to connect locally, while at the same time offering opportunities to improve health and wellbeing through participation in short, low-level, led walks.

Live Life Well also hosts a healthy lifestyles advisor whose aim is to support fishermen and their families in north-east Aberdeenshire through the Seafit programme; a UK-wide joint initiative run by the Fishermen’s Mission and Seafarer’s Hospital Society, supported by Seafarer’s UK.

Chairwoman of Aberdeenshire Council’s communities committee, councillor Anne Stirling, said: “It’s great to see we are supporting residents to improve their mental and physical health and wellbeing in these difficult times with the launch of Live Life Well Aberdeenshire, which I hope will prove beneficial to many people in the area.

“We hope that our approach – working with partners to encourage people to take up community-based health and wellbeing opportunities which will improve their quality of life, tailored to their needs – will prove to be invaluable in improving outcomes for people in all walks of life.

“It has never been so important for us to deliver programmes and to help people find the information and opportunities they need to start to make positive lifestyle changes.”

Committee vice-chairwoman, councillor Doreen Mair, said: “It’s clear there are many challenges for people to maintain their health and wellbeing in our communities at this time.

“We hope Live Life Well Aberdeenshire will provide support and guidance for many residents on a journey towards improving their lives and give people the confidence to start that journey.”
