A north-east road has been closed by Aberdeenshire Council after some locals have taken up rather unwanted residence.

Due to carriageway deterioration, the U64s Devil’s Folly Road From the A96 to Williamston House access road at Culsalmond near Insch will be closed for at least14 days.

A spokesman for Aberdeenshire Council said: "Unfortunately we've had to close the U64 just south of Colpy.

"As if potholes weren't creating enough difficulties for everyone, we now have badgers in on the act and undermining our roads.

"It may have to stay closed for some time whilst they're encouraged to use another sett."

There will be no vehicle access and access for emergency vehicles and will not be permitted due to the road being unsafe.

The road has been closed for the forseeable future.

The alternative route is via A96 to A920 at Culsalmond School, A920 to C64s at Kirkton of Culsalmond to U64s at Mosside and vice versa.

Site notices will be erected indicating the temporary restriction to traffic and the alternative routes where applicable.

Aberdeenshire Council was also forced to close a route near Turriff earlier today due to damage to a bridge leading to a three week long diversion.
