A 37-year-old man has been arrested in the connection with the death of a Staffordhire bull terrier which was found stabbed to death in Inverness.

Police are currently following a positive enquiry in relation to a second man they suspect was involved.

The animal was found stabbed and in a shallow grave in a small area of woodland in the Assynt Road area of Kinmylies on November 4. The grave had been covered by a wooden pallet.

Angry local animal lovers in the area were shocked and horrified by the incident.

And on hearing the news, a disgusted Iona Henderson, who runs Munlochy Animal Aid, immediately put up a £1000 bounty for information leading to the arrest of those responsible.

Scottish SPCA Chief Inspector Iain Allan, who conducted a joint inquiry into the dog's death along with police, expressed his shock at such a killing in a residential area.

He said at the time: "This was an absolutely horrific attack on a young, defenceless animal.

Following the arrest, Inverness police said a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Police also thanked members of the public for their support during the ongoing enquiry and anyone with further information is urged to contact police on 0845 600 5703.
