A DISABLED woman is demanding that Moray Council reduce the traffic speeding "nightmare" through her community, after she was forced to plunge into a hedge with her dog to avoid an onrushing lorry and escape tragedy.

Brenda Scrivens (61) said the lucky escape angered her to such a degree that she started a petition insisting that the local authority take action to cut the speed limit before a more serious accident occurs.

Mrs Scrivens lives at Crofts of Dipple, a community of 19 houses on a straight stretch of the B9015 close to Fochabers.

She said that speeding traffic has always been a problem. However, since the introduction of the new Fochabers-Mosstodloch bypass, which she said now gives vehicles more time to increase their speed before entering Crofts of Dipple, traffic is flying past at an unprecedented rate.

With virtually all of the residents signing up to the petition, the list of names has now been posted to Moray Council.

"It’s always been a bad road but since the bypass it has been 10 times worse," Mrs Scrivens told ‘The Scot’ this week. "It’s just a total nightmare."
