Christmas food favourites are due to begin hitting supermarket shelves from this week in a sure sign that summer is over.

Mince pies and Christmas puddings will be up for grabs from as early as Wednesday for those who simply cannot wait for the most wonderful time of the year.

With just under four months to go, customers in Sainsbury’s will be able to buy yuletide treats such as panettone and stollen when the supermarket launches its first festive products on September 2.

The following day, Asda shoppers can begin adding mince pies to their baskets, with more lines due to be added throughout September as the summer draws to a close.

Tesco will be launching their new recipe mince pies the following week from September 7, while a pack of the mince pies which are suitable for vegans are set to drop at the end of the month.

Party food items and more Christmas treats are expected to hit Tesco stores in the coming weeks.

Customers have been dreaming of a winter wonderland during lockdown, according to Waitrose, who said searches for Christmas over July and August were up 42% on last year.

The supermarket is expecting some festive favourites, including confectionery and crisps, to become available around September 13, with the majority of products expected in October.
