Five on the menu for Highland restaurant accolade
Five top-quality establishments have been short-listed for the Highlands and Islands Food and Drink Forum’s Restaurant of the Year Award.
It is one of 10 awards being presented at the 2011 Highlands and Islands Food and Drink Awards. The winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony on Friday October 21 at the Drumossie Hotel in Inverness.
The five short-listed establishments are Applecross Inn in Strathcarron; Crannag Bistro, Bonar Bridge; Creelers of Skye, Broadford; Summer Isles Hotel in Achiltibuie; and the Waterfront restaurant and bar in Oban.
Recognising excellence and achievement in the food and drink industry, the awards are supported by Highlands and Islands Enterprise, with Scottish Provincial Press as its media partner.
As well as the restaurant of the year, other award categories recognise healthier food and drink, innovation, new products, new businesses and businesses working in collaboration with each other.
With strong competition amid a larger entry field than previous years, the short-listed businesses and organisations demonstrate the top-quality produce that is available across the area.
Quintin Stevens, co-chair of the Highlands and Islands Food and Drink Awards, said: “The restaurants short-listed for the restaurant of the year have all shown that quality is the focus of their business.
“To have been short-listed for the award is already a fantastic achievement. The excellent produce and service available from these establishments is evidence of the quality standards being achieved by the Highland and Islands food and drink industry today.”
Iain Sutherland, senior development manager for food and drink at Highlands and Islands Enterprise, said: “HIE is delighted to support these awards which each year celebrate the range of amazing individual people, businesses and products found across the region.
“The restaurant category, the last short list to be revealed before the event, is a great favourite with the wider public as it highlights the choice and quality of eating places available to visitors and locals alike.”
Hosted by BBC Scotland’s Catriona Shearer, the awards dinner will showcase quality food and drink from the region.
