Portsoy woman wins at Scottish Pharmacist Awards





A pharmacist has triumphed at a national awards ceremony.

Debbie Smith, who works at Portsoy’s Davidsons Chemists, was named Pharmacist of the Year at the prestigious Scottish Pharmacist Awards.

Debbie was presented with her accolade at the event which was held in Edinburgh’s EICC.

In an online post, Davidsons Chemists said: “We are delighted to share that Debbie won the Pharmacist of the Year award for her unwavering support of her local GP practice and patients.

“We are so proud that this has been recognised and pleased that the pharmacy community get to hear what an exceptional person Debbie is.”

Her nomination outlined: “Debbie Smith has been recognised for her exceptional leadership and dedication to patient care at Davidsons Chemist in Portsoy.

“Amidst a turbulent period of change at the local GP practice, she stepped up to support both her community and healthcare colleagues, by implementing new triage systems, upskilling her pharmacy team and ensuring vulnerable patients received the care they needed.

“She established peer support networks for independent prescribers, developed GP staff training and played a key role in streamlining services.

“Her work has strengthened multidisciplinary collaboration and positioned community pharmacy as an essential pillar of local healthcare.

The Scottish Pharmacist Awards event brings together everyone across pharmacy to celebrate the hard work and commitment of teams in Scotland.

Achievements are celebrated including new ways of working via efficiencies or automation to recognising someone who has committed their career to the profession.
