Moray Mums & Co sold out their 180 tickets in less than 24 hours when they went on sale back in January.

The aim of the ball was to raise money for Dr Gray’s maternity ward and its children’s ward as well as Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity.

Due to be held at Moray Sports Centre, the event attracted support and donations from far and wide.

This included discounted hire on services and donations in raffle prizes.

Sadly, though, when the pandemic hit the mums knew holding an event of such a size was no longer possible.

However, it's still been possible to raise such a large amount of cash thanks to the generosity of both businesses and ticket holders.

Sophie McDonald, a nurse on the children's ward was one of the event's organisers.

She said: "We were really overwhelmed by the number of guests who still wanted to be entered into the raffle rather than be refunded their £10 deposits, especially during this tough time.

"We are also very thankful to the businesses who donated prizes.

"From a Johnstons scarf, to hampers, firewood and afternoon tea vouchers – we had some incredible prizes for our guests."

Each of the three good causes will receive £450.

In every case the money will contribute to enhancing the services they provide to babies, children and families going through difficult times.

Another of the organisers was Ashley Campbell, a midwife at Dr Gray’s.

She said: "A while ago we attended a ball in Peterhead to raise money for their maternity unit and for Sands.

"We were so inspired by the love in the room, we knew it was something we wanted to replicate in Moray.

"All the members of Moray Mums & Co have had their babies at Dr Gray's or have needed to use the children’s ward.

"We also know some dear friends who have needed the invaluable work of Sands.

"Choosing these beneficiaries was easy and the support we got locally was tremendous.

"We want to thank everyone for that."
