Mum of three who broke into a Buckie hotel and spat at officers is jailed for 16 months

AN Elgin mother of three who was persuaded to help break into a Buckie hotel was jailed for 16 months at Inverness Sheriff Court.
Ellie-May Devlin of New Mill Road appeared for sentence before Sheriff Sara Matheson after previously admitting the theft of mostly money and alcohol from the Marine Hotel on March 25, 2020.
She also admitted a separate charge of attempting to spit at two officers while stating she had Covid-19. They had attended at an address in Douglas Crescent, Buckie to arrest her on another matter on May 11, 2020.
The court heard that police had been alerted to a box from the hotel being found on a railway line.
Officers went to the hotel and saw the premises had been broken into through the conservatory area.
A safe was missing but it is not known how much was taken. However, the court was told that at least £660 in cash was stolen, an unknown amount from a gaming machine and a £220 laptop.
Numerous bottles of liquor and wine were also removed with an estimated value of hundreds of pounds by two men and Devlin, with the trio being filmed on CCTV.
When arrested, Devlin told police that it was "someone else who had planned it. I was stupid, I should never have done it."
Defence solicitor David Patterson said: "Her lifestyle has recently been quite chaotic and involved illicit substances.
"Drugs had been consumed on this occasion."
