Banffshire and Buchan Coast MSP Karen Adam has highlighted the work of the Banff Toy Bank by lodging a motion in the Scottish Parliament.

The motion commends the group for their selfless efforts to bring joy to the many who are financially left behind during the winter period.

Commenting, Ms Adam said: “There’s two sides worth mentioning here, particularly at a time when COP26 is in full flow, the environmental benefits of projects such as the Banff Toy Bank are well worth highlighting.

"I understand the organisation welcomes the use of toys once loved, to be restored and brought back to be loved once again, bringing joy to children and families instead of heading to the landfill and causing destruction.

“On the other side, in the run up to Christmas and during the winter months, I know many families feel additional strain on their finances because of soaring heating costs and the pressure to make Christmas special for their loved ones.

“The Banff Toy Bank first began in 2018 and are here and available to help ease the burden that some families face around Christmas time.

"Please use the service if it all you need to, and on the other side, if you are in the position to make donations to the organisation, please do!

“As the local MSP for the area, I was keen to show my gratitude firstly by highlighting the incredible work that the Banff Toy Bank does to help struggling families, secondly, to use this opportunity to urge people to use the service the Toy Bank provides if they need to do so. Lodging this motion recognising the work of the Banff Toy Bank is just a small token of gratitude from me for the positive contribution they make to people who need just that bit of support.”
