MSP Gillian Martin is encouraging constituents to take part in this year’s Great British Beach Clean.

The Aberdeenshire East representative has previously campaigned and encouraged members of the public to make sure they pick up discarded litter while out walking, at natural beauty spots and beaches with her Take 5 campaign.

This year, the Marine Conversation Society are asking volunteers to focus on small, local beach cleans – as a family or in small groups - in line with Scottish Government guidance.

Commenting, Ms Martin said: “My family and I have spent years walking along the beautiful north-east coastline with our children and dogs.

“As lockdown restrictions have eased, more people have been travelling to visit beauty spots in the constituency.

“It is so important we get outside while doing all we can to protect our coastlines and the wildlife and marine life that inhabits it.

“I would encourage constituents to take part in the Big British Beach Clean but make sure to do it in small groups in line with Scottish Government guidance.”

The Great British Beach Clean will take place from September 18- 25.
