AN MSP has hit out at some independence supporters over a campaign to boycott businesses which played host to the prime minister during his Scotland visit yesterday.
Boris Johnson made stops at companies in the north and Moray, including Orkney Cheese and Baxters, during a visit to relay his message that the UK can "bounce back stronger together" from the impact of coronavirus.
His visit comes as opinion polls show more than half of Scots favour independence.
The prime minister was accompanied by Moray MP Douglas Ross and Councillor Tim Eagle at Baxters, where he met staff during a tour.
In the hours since the visit the businesses have become the target of a campaign by some nationalists calling for their products to be boycotted.
Highlands and Islands Conservative MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston said: "People looking to harm businesses like this really need to take a good look at themselves.
"Their behaviour is infantile and ridiculous.
"Thankfully, the vast majority of the Scottish population ignores these silly stunts and treats them with the contempt they deserve.
"At this time more than ever, hard-working local businesses need support, not trolling."
