Aberdeenshire East MSP Gillian Martin has paid tribute to Kim Little after she announced her retirement from international football.

The 31-year-old, originally from Mintlaw, announced her retirement earlier this month after her first debut for Scotland at the age of 16 in 2007.

The Arsenal player’s career began with the Mintlaw Miracles in Ms Martin’s Aberdeenshire East constituency.

The MSP has put forward a parliamentary motion recognising the mark Kim Little has made on women’s football including playing 140 times for Scotland.

Commenting, Gillian Martin said: “Kim Little is an inspiration to young girls in the north-east and right across Scotland showing how determination, talent and hard work can lead to a career in football.

“I know residents in Mintlaw are incredibly proud of how far Kim has come in her career and it has been a thrill to watch her on the international stage.

“I wish her every success as she continues her club career and I know she will continue to inspire young football players to achieve their dreams too.”
