Banff and Buchan MP David Duguid has hailed the efforts of local postal workers during the COVID-19 crisis as “fantastic”.

Today, April 29, is the ninth annual National Postal Workers Day.

The event recognises the dedication of hundreds of thousands of workers who collect, sort and deliver letters, parcels and packets to 29million addresses, six days a week, all over the UK.

The daily arrival of post has remained constant throughout the hugely challenging COVID-19 lockdown.

Post workers union CWU said that staff in Grampian are working around the clock to keep the country connected and are checking on the elderly and taking shopping to other vulnerable people.

Mr Duguid said: “Our posties here in Banff and Buchan, and indeed across the UK, are doing a fantastic job during these challenging times.

“For those of us who are working from home or unable to work at all, it is reassuring to know that postal workers are continuing to keep us connected.

“I think many people would want to join me in thanking all of the postal service staff for their hard work and dedication.

“This Wednesday provides an opportunity for all of us to show our appreciation.”
