Gordon MP Richard Thomson is encouraging his constituents to prepare for winter.

Many people will be spending more time at home this year – whether working from home, shielding or self-isolating.

The UK has one of the most reliable energy networks in the work, with around 36,000 key workers in the gas and electricity network companies working hard to keep the energy flowing.

Despite their dedication, extreme weather can interrupt the energy supply and the companies are urging everyone to be ‘winter ready’ by knowing how to access help.

If you experience a power cut, you can call 105 free from a mobile or landline or visit powercut105.com

If you smell gas, call the free National Gas Emergency Number immediately – 0800 111 999

Anyone with extra communication, access or safety needs should consider joining the free Priority Services Register to provide additional services if power or gas supply is cut unexpectedly.

Register by contacting your energy supplier or local electricity or gas network distributer.

Commenting, Mr Thomson said: “As key workers, gas and electrical sector staff will continue to work in a safe way regardless of restrictions and will be on hand to assist in the community when needed.

"I would like to encourage everyone to get ‘winter ready’ and prepare for situations like a power or gas cut.

"Please reach out to neighbours, elderly members of your community and others who may also need help to prepare and ensure everyone is aware of how to access help.”
