LOCAL bus operator Stagecoach yesterday announced plans to increase services across Moray and Aberdeenshire from next week.

More buses will run again on well-used services such as the number 10 Aberdeen-Elgin-Inverness, and the number 35 Aberdeen-Banff-Elgin route from Monday, April 19.

In Moray, many of the local services connecting to Elgin will increase.

And acting on customer feedback, Stagecoach will reintroduce a ticket valid for travel on any of its buses across Elgin.

The Elgin zone will cost £3.50 for a day ticket, £9 for seven days or £35 for a 28-day ticket. The zone will also be available on the Flexi5 ticket on the Stagecoach app. Flexi 5 is for infrequent travellers offering five-day tickets for the price of four to use over a calendar month.

Peter Knight, managing director at Stagecoach Bluebird, said: "We’re looking forward to increasing the number of local bus connections from next week.

"Our fantastic team have kept services operating right through the pandemic with social distancing on board and additional touch-point cleaning taking place. This will remain the case from April 19 for those who need to use our services.

"As the vaccination programme continues at pace and as more of the country starts to open up in line with the latest advice from the Scottish Government, we’d like to thank our customers for their support and co-operation over the past year."

Public transport users are asked to continue to follow rules around wearing face coverings for their whole journey, washing and sanitising hands before and after travel, and social distancing.

Other Covid-19 secure measures put in place by Stagecoach include the Busy Bus feature on the free Stagecoach app helping customers travel at quieter times and contactless payment facilities on board every bus.
