Moray's Tories have also welcomed the new walk-through Covid-19 testing centre which should be operating in Elgin by Friday.

The facility will be sited at Lossie Green, where a mobile unit carried out tests on two separate occasions earlier in the year.

Over the weekend Richard Lochhead, Moray's MSP, hailed the importance of having a test centre locally.

These sentiments have now been echoed by Tim Eagle, the leader of the Conservative group on Moray Council and Douglas Ross, the region's MP.

Cllr Eagle (Buckie) said: "We have been fortunate so far in Moray to remain in a low tier of Coronavirus restrictions, but there is certainly no room for complacency.

"This is great news for people in Elgin and something that I have been working towards with council colleagues and NHS Grampian.

"Accessibility of testing is essential for keeping the virus under control.

"A walk-through centre will be hugely valuable during the winter months when there will already be additional pressure on local NHS services."

Mr Ross said: "We all know how important testing is as part of the fight against Covid-19.

"I am very pleased that we will have a walk-through testing centre opening in Elgin which will benefit people across Moray.

"There is now a network of drive-through and walk-through sites across Scotland, including mobile units that that have operated within Moray already.

"We all have to remain vigilant in the face of this virus, particularly at this time of year but this testing site provides another tool in the armoury to keep cases as low as possible in Moray and to protect local NHS services."

There are now six drive-through sites in Scotland, as well as 16 walk-through sites and 21 mobile units.
