Richard Lochhead will not be attending today's election count at the Moray Sports Centre in Elgin because he is self-isolating.

The SNP candidate who is looking to retain his seat at Holyrood states he is currently awaiting a test result for a family member.

He said: "My family and I have decided to voluntarily self-isolate today as we await the outcome of a PCR test for my young son.

"He does not have the classic Covid symptoms but was coughing occasionally through the night, and the advice I've received from the NHS is that he should book a PCR test as a precaution given the number of cases in Elgin at the moment.

"Unfortunately, I will not now be attending in person today’s election count at Moray Sports Centre for the declaration of the result for the Moray constituency.

"Although, under the guidance, I don't have to self-isolate, it wouldn't feel right attending a count attended by so many people knowing I’m awaiting a result for a family member’s PCR test.

"My family have been using lateral flow home test kits all week and all tests have been negative.

"I wish my team and everyone attending the count well and I am hoping for a great result for the SNP in Moray and throughout Scotland.

"Hopefully, I'll have cause to attend virtually later today and that Zoom or some other platform will come to my rescue.

"All being well I may be able to attend in person tomorrow for the next stage of the count."
