Caitlin Duguid, from Keith, is one of 34 students across Scotland to be nominated and then selected for the 10-lesson course.

Ms Duguid is a third year sport and fitness student at the college and volunteers with the Highlands and Islands Students' Association (HISA).

It was her boss at HISA, Emma Robson, who put her forward to be part of this course, which started four weeks ago.

"We are learning a lot of new skills on the programme," Caitlin said. "We work with a variety of people and it's good to meet them and hear their stories.

"The things we learn can help in the workplace and can be applied in a variety of different situations.

"I want to be a PE teacher or a strength and conditioning coach. But I also teach English to refugees through the Learning Station Project and I can apply what I'm learning there, too."

Ms Duguid is well-known for her bodybuilding, having taken up the sport in January 2019 – but that has been put on the back burner for the time being due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Before that she was involved with weightlifting.

The leadership programme, which is fully online, has now taken a break for the winter and is set to resume at the end of January.
