The MACBI Community Hub in Mintlaw has announced that due to the new coronavirus restrictions coming into force it will close from Christmas Eve.

It will shut from 1pm on December 24 and will reopen again when it is permitted to do so.

From Boxing Day the whole of mainland Scotland will have the highest level four Covid-19 restrictions imposed.

The centre said on social media: "As of 1pm on December 24 the Hub will be closed until further notice.

"We are absolutely gutted to be closing again but rest assured as soon as we can reopen again, we will.

"We ask at this time that you stay safe! And don't forget about us – although the hub will be closing we are always here if you are struggling in anyway so please feel free to pop us a message and we will get back in touch and do what we can."

The Mintlaw and Central Buchan Intiative (MACBI) Community Hub is located at Newlands Road in the village, adjacent to Mintlaw Academy, Pitfour Primary School, health centre, library and all-weather pitch.

It offers the community a variety of facilities including a multi-purpose hall; fitness room; soft play area; meeting rooms; lounge and viewing area; and café.

These can be used for exercise classes and activities including badminton and soft tennis.

Events can be held at the centre, when they are permitted again, including cinema days, fun runs, road safety activities, sports days and boxing nights.

Groups including the Friday night Youth Club and Golden Oldies exercise class use the hub, along with businesses and organisations which can use the facilities for meetings, conferences and training.

Work is under way to build an extension to the MACBI hub for a youth fitness centre.

The project recently received £33,093 from the Scottish Government's Town Centre Fund to assist in the completion of the work.
