An open meeting is to be held in a bid to secure the future of Lower Banff Junior Agricultural Club (JAC).

All current, past and potential future members are invited to bring family and friends to the visit at Gray’s Composting Plant, The Ley, Fordyce, Banff on Wednesday, June 5 at 7.30pm.

The Gray family have had close links to the Lower Banff club for many years.

Opening in 1946, Lower Banff JAC has strong ties with the local farming community but in recent months has seen a decline in membership numbers.

At a recent meeting held to discuss the clubs future, past and current members showed that there is strong desire to keep the club open.

Past club and district chairman Cameron Ewen said: "As past club members we are disappointed to see the continuation of the club come into question and are keen to do what we can to ensure it will remain for future generations of youngsters from the area."

Janelle Anderson, SAYFC regional manager, said: "The Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs is a youth organisation for members between 14 and 30 years of age, all new members are welcome and do not have to be from an agricultural background.

"As well as the traditional farming related competitions there are many non-agricultural activities and competitions for everyone to enjoy."

For more information about the meeting contact Cameron Ewen on 07975 500167, Alan Davidson on 07595 781477 or current club member Ewan Fraser on 07742 438416.
