McDonald’s comes to Ellon as Balmacassie site plans are approved

Efforts to bring a new branch of burger chain McDonald’s to Ellon have been approved this week by Aberdeenshire Council.

Plans were first submitted just over a year ago at a site adjacent to the existing Tesco store at Balmacassie with a drive-thru branch but concerns over the layout of the site saw them subsequently withdrawn, Undetered however the application was brought forward again in a revised form with further public consultation events held to gauge the level of interest from the local community.

The finalised plans show the removal of the drive-thru element and better parking provision on site.

This was reflected in the support expressed for the planning application with 200 notes of support submitted, and just three objections.

Having addressed the issues raised over the inclusion of the drive-thru element, the new plans which have been given the go-ahead are for an exclusively parked on site and enclosed retail outlet, which will potentially offer up to a 100 jobs as it is planned to open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The new branch will be the second to have been approved in recent months, with plans now moving forward at Huntly next to the A96.
