Man dies in hospital after Banff road crash

A 30-year-old man has died following a road collision in Banff's Low Street on Friday afternoon.

Emergency services, including police, ambulance and fire crews were called to the incident, which involved a cyclist and a lorry, at around 2.20pm.

The cyclist, Rikki Gault, was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries but has since died.

Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance landed at the town's Canal Park and paramedics also assisted at the scene, but he was not airlifted.

A Police Scotland spokesman said Mr Gault's family has requested privacy at this time, however wished it known that: "Rikki lived life to the full and will be sorely missed."

A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

The police spokesman added: "Low Street was closed for around eight hours to allow for collision investigation work.

"Anyone who witnessed the crash or seen either the lorry or the cyclist prior to the crash is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 2066 of August 7, 2020."
