Man charged with murder after village death

Police have confirmed that a 20-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of a 51-year-old man at a home near Cuminestown.

A 22-year-old man who was also arrested in connection with the incident has been released pending further enquiries.

The 20-year-old is expected to appear at court on Friday.

Emergency services were called to the incident at around 4.45am on Wednesday.

The 51-year-old man who died has been formally identified by police as Anthony McGladrigan.

His family issued the following statement through police: "Tony was loved, brave and an amazing son, husband, father, brother and exceptional friend. He will be missed every day.

"The family are devastated and would like privacy at this difficult time."

Anyone who heard or saw anything in the area is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 0441 of June 26.
