A workshop in Macduff next week will get stuck in to opportunities for businesses in the expanding local food and drink market.

A series of speakers aim to "inspire and connect" participants at the interactive workshop.

The purpose is to link local businesses who produce food and drink with those who buy, cook, serve, sell and distribute it. Participants will enjoy tasters of some of the region's finest fare.

The event at The Knowes Hotel will focus on the local food and drink sector.

There will be speakers from a cross-section of groups, including ONE (Opportunity North East), Connect Local, VisitAberdeenshire, and a case study from Wayne Stewart, of the Knowes Hotel.

This will be paired with advice, inspiration, information and a chance to network.

Banff and Buchan area committee chairman Andy Kille said: "I’m pleased to see an event of this nature taking place in the north. It is important to recognise the significant contribution that locally produced food and drink can and does have on our economy.

"Focusing on our unique local products gives our area strength to support the local economy and future-proof our area."

Chairman of the Banff Development Partnership and councillor Glen Reynolds said: “The food and drink sector is a significant part of the economy of north-east Scotland and council officers working in the development partnership along with others, are to be congratulated for pulling together this initiative, the event being part of the ongoing regeneration of our region and the economic development strategy.

"It aims to create the conditions for sustainable growth by attracting and supporting businesses.

"Many of our local businesses are leading the way in terms of innovation or success and it’s important to encourage that.

"The event is also a chance for leading figures in the industry to share ideas and best practice, further strengthening the area’s increasingly international offering.

"North-east Scotland has an excellent base for growth in food, drink, agriculture and seafood, with its wide range of primary produce, new businesses, big name brands and international connections.

"The council has been working alongside Opportunity North East (ONE) and everyone recognises the potential of this sector, with scope for development in internationalisation, provenance, nutritional products and quality brands, and we have to be committed to investing expertise in this sector.

"This event is one such example and I welcome it happening in our local community."

Tickets for the event, which takes place at the Knowes Hotel from 11am-2pm on May 28, are available at Eventbrite: http://bit.ly/MACfnd
