Lottery funding for Gordon community groups welcomed

Gordon MP Richard Thomson has welcomed the latest round of lottery funding which sees seven groups in the constituency receive payouts.

Welcoming the funding awards, Mr Thomson congratulated the organisations and said he is keen to encourage more applications from local groups to get more lottery money coming to Gordon constituency.

Mr Thomson said: “I am delighted for the seven organisations concerned who will share almost £50,000 of funding for their various projects.

"These are substantial awards which can make a real difference to their local communities.

“I’m always keen to look at ways of encouraging more funding applications from community groups and organisations to take advantage of what’s available and ensure that north-east communities benefit as a result.

"As a first step, I am happy to provide a letter of support for constituted groups who are making or considering making funding applications.”

The awards in Gordon constituency are:

  • Dyce In Bloom Gardening Club received a £10,000 grant. The club will purchase a replacement truck that will be essential in carrying out a variety of community gardening and display functions.
  • Ellon and District Men's Shed received a £7100 grant. The group will use the funding to purchase and install a new CNC lathe for the Men's Shed, allowing them to have new woodwork and engraving equipment. This will help to expand the amount of activities the group can run as well as enabling members to create new items to sell to provide income for the group.
  • Glass Community Association received a £9918 grant. This charity will build a bellmouth access and passing place to improve access to their indoor and outdoor community spaces at Glass Village Hall. They will also use the funding to buy orchard and indigenous trees for a newly developed community gathering area.
  • Port Elphinstone Community House SCIO received a £7500 grant. This Inverurie community venue will use the funds to help cover their overheads and subsidise rental costs for new groups as they continue to recover from a post-Covid-19 loss of income.
  • The Clatt Hall Committee received a £650 grant to support local events.
  • The Period Place CIC received a £8820 grant. The group will deliver monthly online period clinics that will provide families with education and tools to support their daughters as they start to experience their menstrual cycle. There will be a focus on families from ethnic minority backgrounds.
  • Udny Community Trust Company Limited received a £3450 grant. To assist towards its newly opened community venue.
