Long service award recognition for north-east agricultural recipients

Five long service award presentations were made at Turriff Show this year recognising the recipients commitment and dedication to the sector in their respective roles.

Awarded for full time continuous employment, the quintet have 195 years of work between them.

45 years - Ron Dawson from Kennethmont began his career with North-east Farmers in 1976 as a feed specialist and progressed to regional sales manager before overal sales in 86. When taken over by ACT Scotland he was in the post of general manger where he remained until retirement in 2021.

His family including his grandchildren keep him busy and he is also a director of Huntly Football Club.

42 years - Richard Skene with W and E Christie and Son and AA Webster and Sons of Bethelnie, Oldmeldrum,

Started at age 16 on the farm working with dairy and when the farm changed over he moved on to new skills in sowing and spraying.

Richard has continued to work seeing many changes and has adapeted to the new technologies.

37 years - Richard Allan from Loanhead, Huntly with Procam Robertson Crop Services and Robertson Crop Services of Cuminestown.

He started in 1976 and has worked for the company as an agronomist.

Away from work, his passion for horses has continued for over 50 years and has developed American quarter horses which he continues to breed.

40 years - Norman Riddell with GTG Shepherd, Newburgh started in 1979 and has been an outstanding colleague and never shied away from innovation.

As a skilled tractor operator he is renowned for his fabrication skills.

31 years - Ron Patterson with Procam Robertson Crop Services and Robertson Crop Services of Cuminestown.

He started in 1981 as an agronomist and is a well known face, being married to Turriff Show's secretary Helen who is set to retire at the end of 2022.

Ron says he has no hobbies, just working and is not retiring anytime soon!.
