This year’s switch-on of the Inverurie Christmas lights was a roaring success as thousands turned out for the annual event.

With plenty of Christmas joy, this year’s honour to switch the lights on went to local celebrity and Olympic swimmer Hannah Miley.

Spectators were treated to live music from bands and singing groups throughout the afternoon.

There was also the St Andrews Parade through the town by Pipe Bands and youth groups.

There was a variety of craft and Christmas stalls around for people to check out.

And the switch-on ended with the ever-popular spectacular fireworks display which lit up the sky.

Delighted Inverurie BID manager Derek Ritchie said: “There was a fantastic turnout from locals and positive feedback has been great all over social media.

“Between 4000 and 5000 people came along, which shows that the Inverurie people come out to support.

“I do encourage Inverurie people to shop local and support local businesses, especially leading up to Christmas.”
