Scotland’s longest running countryside show, Landward returns for its spring series on BBC Scotland on Thursday, April 6.
Presenters, Dougie Vipond, Arlene Stuart, Anne McAlpine, Cammy Wilson, Rosie Morton and Shahbaz Majeed are back out on the road digging deep into the rural stories that matter.
In the first programme Dougie’s near St Andrews in Fife where competitors and tractors, and horses, are gathering for one of the country’s biggest ploughing competitions.
As the farming season gets underway across the land he’ll be finding out what it takes to plough the perfect furrow ahead of the crops being sown.
Ahead of competition Arlene visits the farm of female competitor, Carol Jack as she gets some last minute training in.
Arlene has a go to find out if she’s got what it takes to be a champion plougher.
Ahead of ploughing, Cammy gets his hands dirty as he finds out why cow manure is so nutritious for the soil.
He joins his farmer friend Crawford Niven at Gloagburn Farm in Perthshire as he demonstrates the fine art of muck spreading.
In this series Landward will be following some of the dedicated rural vets who look after the country’s livestock, horses and pets.
Being introduced in the first episode are Ayrshire vet, Tom Crawshaw who specialises in beef and dairy cattle, and Mary Jo Grant based in Ross-shire, who specialises in equine medicine.
There will be reports from them over the coming weeks as they respond to callouts and treat animals in need.
And Shahbaz is looking for your pictures as he launches the Landward photo competition.
He’ll outline the six themes and how to submit your special images.
Shahbaz will select some of the best to be shown on the programme through the series.
He’ll also share a few tips on how he captures the stunning Scottish landscape.
Landward returns on Thursday, April 6 at 8.30pm on BBC Scotland.
