Moray music: Keith-born singer Amy Papiransky aims to build on success of last single
A Keith-born singer is looking to follow up the success of her last record which was named Radio Scotland’s ‘Single of The Week’.
Amy Papiransky, who grew up in the North East, is a classically trained multi-instrumentalist plus a former finalist in BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year.
Her new release ‘Isabella’, which comes out on August 9, focuses on the perils of social media.
Amy, who juggles playing live and recording with her day job at a school in Glasgow, said: “As a high school teacher, I witnessed first-hand the negative impact that endless scrolling on social media had on children throughout lockdown.
“Many of my students became quiet, sad, withdrawn, and obsessed with their mobile phones.
“The constant exposure to a feed of seemingly ‘perfect lives’ on Instagram and TikTok completely knocked their confidence and self-esteem.
“It made me reflect on my own use of social media. I soon realised that I too was comparing myself to others more than I’d ever done before.
“I felt body-conscious, inadequate, miserable. It made me question, if it was making me feel this way, then what was it doing to the brains of our young people? So, I wrote a song about it.”

Amy has played numerous high-profile festivals across the UK, including Belladrum, Edinburgh Fringe and Cambridge Folk Festival.
She’s also headlined King Tut’s in Glasgow and PJ Molloys in Dundee.
Amongst the acts Amy has supported is KT Tunstall who said of her: “A bit of Dolly and a bit of Carole King with the piano, and a real tie in with good country writing over her stunning Scottish accent.”
