Watch: Sun shines down on day one of Turriff Show

After a two year hiatus due to Covid, the Turriff Show made a welcome return on Sunday, and while the attention at the two day event focuses on the best of livestock and equestrian entries, away from the show rings there is a wealth of events, stands and activities to engage and enthrall visitors.

One of the popular destinations in the Craft Marquee where there was a wide variety of stalls and products on offer.

This included items to help you craft your own creations and ready made items by the crafters themselves - there was even a few potential Christmas gifts hidden amongst less seasonal offerings.

North East Open Studios - better known as NEOS - are on hand to promote the return of their annual event which will take place from September 10 to 18.

Turriff United Youth Football Club are amongst the local groups fundraising at the two day event.

They had a host of activities on offer for visitors, including football darts and a speed cage.

A trolley chip was also proving popular and with the sun shining their selection of drinks and snacks were also going down a treat.

The group also have two raffles ongoing.

Elsewhere Turriff And District Heritage Society are amongst the groups in this year's Exhibition Marquee.

This is an opportunity to learn more about local jubilee celebrations and some of Turriff Show's history.

Visitors also have the opportunity to take a closer look at Turriff's Jubilee Beacon which was lit on June 2 to mark the commencement of jubilee celebrations.

The children's area in Ferguson Hall offers lots of fun activities to entertain little ones.

Magician Dean Spruce was on hand to amaze with balloon creatures, while the hall was decorated with pictures by local youngsters.

Old Macdonald's Infarmation remains a popular attraction, and there was also space for parents to seek advice on oral hygiene and building good literacy habits with Bookbug.

A breastfeeding area has also been set up for parents, with Breastfeeding Friendly Scotland on hand to speak to parents about any concerns or struggles they may be having.

The band stand was showing off a selection of local talent while offering an opportunity for visitors to take a break and relax from the hustle and bustle.

Amongst those taking to the stage on Sunday were Turriff Community Singers, Turriff Silver Band, Deveron Brass Band and singer Lois Paterson.

Sunday also offered a full day of entertainment for those who wanted to spend time sheltering from the sun ringside.

The day started with the various equine competitions, which concluded with the presentation of the champion titles for a ridden and in-hand animal.

This was followed by the ever popular sulky trot, before the big attraction of super heroes performing stunts took over.

The crowd was mesmerised by Vander Super Heroes as they balanced and performed tricks on a rotating wheel.

The afternoon also saw a pipe band parade and children's races before ending with the pageant float parade and a vintage vehicle display.

Turriff Show will return for day two tomorrow (Monday), between 8am and 6pm.

Amongst the attractions are showjumping, Clydesdale horse judging, cattle judging, the National Highland Cattle Show, sheep judging, the crowning of the Champion Of Champions.

Princess Anne is also expected to attend the second day of the event.
