Moray Girlguides enjoy trip to Amsterdam in The Netherlands

Girlguiding Scotland members from all over Moray had an “unforgettable” trip to Amsterdam.

More than 25 Guides from Keith, Buckie, Fochabers, Burghead and Lhanbryde ventured to the Dutch capital, where they took part in a treasure hunt.

They joined 600 girls from other parts of Scotland in Amsterdam for the one-day adventure.

The members, who were supported by 10 volunteers, were tasked with taking part in a series of activities – each worth a certain number of points.

These challenges included scavenger questions; photo challenges and different location check-ins all over the city.

From Mollie Henderson, 1st Fochabers Guides, said: ”I loved travelling with one of my best friends; it made it even more fun!

“I also enjoyed taking part in the game because it let me see different parts of Amsterdam. I can’t wait to go back someday.”

Thea Evans, 1st Buckie Guides, added: “The Amsterdam Adventure was amazing.

“I learned how to be more confident trying new things, and I loved meeting other Guides from different places.

“It was such a fun experience and I’ll never forget it.”

International travel is just one of many opportunities Girlguiding Scotland offers girls and young women.

The group has nearly 40,000 members and their unique programme includes badges in everything from mindfulness to bush craft, plus opportunities to enjoy outdoor adventure, gain awards and develop leadership skills.

Maureen Stables, a leader in Keith, added: “Amsterdam was a great adventure from start to finish.

“The girls all got to experience a wide range of efficient public transport including a passenger ferry and tram.

“It was fabulous to see their life skills develop as they helped us get around the city.”

The Guides worked hard to raise money towards the cost of the trip by organising coffee mornings, events at stalls and more.

All Guides were also grateful for local companies, including Gulf Garage in Keith, for donating towards their trip.
