A HUNTLY family is getting right behind a fundraising drive for two cancer charities.

Kimberley Forsyth (38) has been receiving chemotherapy after being diagnosed with an aggressive breast cancer last September.

Last week, just as her treatment ended, her singer/songwriter brother Michael (34) released a single written for her, on online music platforms.

Over the weekend, "She Can Fly" peaked at number four on the i tunes singer/songwriter chart topped by Jake Bugg and with George Ezra at number three.

While dealing with the side effects of the treatment, Kimberley has turned her focus to raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support, Cancer Research and a charity a supporting music venues hit by closures during Covid.

Last weekend, supported by friends in the music industry, Kimberely ran an online draw for more than 70 prizes. It raised over £2500 and £1263 was donated to Macmillan and the balance to Save our Venues.

Every time the single is downloaded or streamed, money will be raised for Macmillan and next month, on Sunday, March 14, from 2pm the online, In Your Ears Music Radio will feature a host of unsigned artistes, including Michael, and hope that listeners will donate directly to Macmillan and to a tip jar for the musicians.

Michael, who has written songs and played in bands since he was a teenager, was at a loss for how to support Kimberley after her diagnosis but managed to put his feelings into words and music.

Kimberley said: "The song's just amazing, he let me hear it for the first time just before Christmas but I had no idea he was going to release it. It's a beautiful song and it feels very special to have my own song."

Michael said: "The song's about the fact that sometimes life's unfair and the road's pulled out from under your feet but how I will always be there for her.

"I hadn't really planned to release it but we all want to help raise money for Kimberley's charities so it's on a few different sites and people pay to download or stream it which will go to them. I didn't expect it to chart at all. It's on a few platforms, Amazon and Spotify as well as i tunes."

Her older brother, David (40) and wee sister Megan (20) have both signed up to the Walk all over Cancer 10,000 steps a day in March challenge.

To date, £540 has been pledged to David.

Kimberley, has picked the "Fighting Back with Music" tag for her fundraising and has launched merchandise which can be bought from www.moteefe.com/store/fighting-back-with-music.
