IT is hoped that event more groups and businesses will want to be involved in Hairst 2022 after the success of the event earlier this month.

Wee Toots, who ran the kids parties have already said they will host them next year and Trevor Buckley, Huntly Golf Club captain says they will definitely get involved again.

Part time organiser, Laura McNeil believes the involvement of businesses and clubs was key to the success of Hairst and hopes that having seen the success of the event, more will want to be involved in the future.

The Ex Servicemen's, football and golf clubs all hosted events.

Mr Buckley said: "It was great to see clubs getting involved and it was a good day for us. We had people in who had never seen the clubhouse before, some had lunches or teas and now know it's not just members only and it was just good to support and event in the community."

Mrs McNeil said the level of engagement from all across the community made it possible to stage the event.

She said: "From Fiona Murray who made the public loos look pretty with flowers and the people who kept them clean right to the volunteers who took photos for our archives and website there was such a sense of willingness to help.

"We had the youngsters from the ATC help with set up and stallholders were so chuffed when they got a hand - not to mention our own small group who really appreciated their help fetching and carrying.

"We had such a a lot of support - Debbie Dee Photography were key in the videos we posted online in the run up and we worked with Experience Huntly to promote Hairst and the QR codes for the programme.

"Our competitions and events could not have gone ahead without backing from the likes of Forbes Raeburn, The Larder, Dean's, Orbs, Neep and Okra, Huntly Crafters, Whiskies of Scotland and many others.

"We really hope that Hairst was a major step in Huntly's recovery from the pandemic and people enjoyed being back in the town centre."

To set fundraising for Hairst 2022 in motion, an appeal with a £1500 target has been launched - to donate go on line to www.gofundme and search Huntly Hairst.
