THE Hairst competition winning shortbread will be served up in Dean’s Bistro from next week for the rest of the month .
Norma Breathet, from Ardersier, won the contest with her pistachio and white chocolate shortbread.
Claire Kneale, brand co-ordinator who judged the 11 entries, said:”The shortbread was light and crumbly and the flavour of the white chocolate was delicious without overpowering the shortbread while the nuts were the perfect size and distribution to get the pistachio flavour and texture, without making the biscuit too crunchy.
“The entries were a great mix of traditional and innovative flavours and all delicious. It was particularly good to see and taste different flavour combinations.”
Runner-up was Ewan Skinner with traditional petticoat tails which Ms Kneale described as having a good colour, lovely crumbly texture and buttery to taste.
Mrs Breathet, experimented with her usual recipe to find the winning combination and opted for pistachios over cherries. She plans a trip to Huntly to taste her winning recipe.
Dean’s supported the competition by providing packs with all the ingredients
