THE Bank of Scotland has announced it is to close its Huntly branch this summer.

As of July 6, the nearest branches for Huntly customers will be in Banff or Inverurie. A mobile branch will also come into the area.

Bank of Scotland say counters in the Huntly branch are 17 per cent quieter than a year ago.

Personal banking transactions over the counter are down by 18 per cent and business transactions by 15 per cent. Cash machine usage has also dropped by 10 per cent.

Compared to what bank of Scotland describe as a "typical branch", the number of personal banking customers in Huntly is 76 per cent lower and business clients 53 per cent.

Details of the mobile service will be provided ahead of the branch closure but the company says that cheques and up to £5000 in cash can be paid in provided the cash does not contain more than 10 bags of coins. Cash withdrawals of up to £500 can be made.

Bank of Scotland also say that transactions can be carried out at the Post Office.

Turriff's Bank of Scotland branch is also set to close. A total of 56 Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland branches nationwide are closing.
