Banff’s Chalmers Hospital opens new comfort room for families of patients and staff
A hospital has officially opened a new comfort room which can be used by families of patients during difficult times.
The facility has been created in the GP ward of Chalmers Hospital in Banff.
Various fundraising has enabled the room to be completed and an opening event was held.
Senior charge nurse Doreen McGregor said: “The comfort room means so much to us at Chalmers - it’s so much more than walls, paint and furniture.
“It’s a place of peace, and a testament to what can be achieved when people work together.
“The fundraising started in 2023, when we received a generous donation in memory of a patient who attended the ward for several years for infusions.
“We then received money from Tarlair from their ladies day.
“Earlier this year we managed to secure estates to complete the work.
“Thanks to all the generous donations we now have a sanctuary for families to go through some of life’s most difficult moments.
“It will also allow our dedicated staff to have some quiet time to pause, breathe and recharge. It’s vital we care for ourselves too.
“The room is a reminder of the strength and kindness in our community. We are all grateful.”
Also involved with the project was Friends of Chalmers Hospital.
Janet Anderson from the group said: “The official opening of the comfort room went very well.
“It was an opportunity to thank all the groups, families and relatives of GP ward patients who gave so generously towards the project.
“The comfort room is an oasis of calm within the ward. The Friends of Chalmers Hospital were delighted to be involved.
“The Friends are a charity, and all donations are used to help and support the patients, their families, staff and all who use the hospital. The comfort room is a perfect example of this.
“Congratulations to all involved in bringing the idea of a comfort room to an amazing reality.”
