Cake unites Aberchirder community to launch jubilee celebrations

Young people in Aberchirder united to organise a community cake buffet to celebrate The Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Girlguiding Aberchirder and Marnoch Scout Group organised the event to bring the community together, and have hailed it a "great success".

Free to attend, the community turned out in droves to sample an array of home baked goods.

The event was also attended by Lord Lieutenant of Banffshire Andrew Simpson, local councillors and local police officers also popped in to meet with locals.

As well as a banquet of home bakes, there was also a jubilee themed craft station which was popular with young visitors.

Guide leader Elaine Robertson said: "Thank you to all who baked, purchased, supported and helped in any way with the youth groups to celebrate the jubilee.

"It was well received and the turn out was amazing, it’s nice to see everyone come together."

Lord Lieutenant Of Banffshire Andrew Simpson said: "Very well done to everyone for today's event.

"It was fantastic to see the community coming together with lots of chat and delicious cakes.

"A great start to the Platinum Jubilee events in historic Banffshire."
