Jamie Menzies from Mid Clochforbie farm near Turriff has spent his time over the past few months building a “Hobbit Hut” on his farm.

The Hut along with a 20ft fire pit, yurt and wigwam which were all also built in recent weeks have been completely built out of local materials and have a water wheel to create electricity to power the accommodation.

The new hut has had lots of interest and bookings from families already who have been enjoying their stay and some who have already booked their next stay,

On the project Mr Menzies said: “This has been a love affair of mine since I went to Zimbabwe 25 years ago and fell in love with a farm with a loch and little houses surrounding it.

“I wanted to recreate this in my farm.

“We have actually built the lochs planted the trees and landscaped over a 15 year period.

“We are trying to create an off grid feel to the place where you can catch your own fish, pick your own vegetables on site and collect the eggs from the chickens.”
