ABERCHIRDER and District Community Association has published a new book by local historian Bob Peden to mark a century since the start of planning for the Memorial Hall.
The hall, built in 1926, was a memorial to the men of Marnoch who lost their lives during World War One.
Marnoch Memorial Hall: A Centenary History traces the history of the site in North Street and the long period of fundraising before the opening of the hall.
A section on the good years includes more than 20 photographs, contributed by local people, showing people enjoying the wide range of activities and events which sustained the hall’s finances.
Then follows an account of the years of decline which led in 2003 to demolition. The final chapters look at two campaigns since then to build a replacement, and the recent decision by New Marnoch Church to sell off its Church Hall.
Author Bob Peden said: "Time alone will tell whether a new Marnoch Memorial Hall will ever be built. In the meantime I hope this book will provide a souvenir for those who used the original hall as well as enlightening those who never knew it."
The book, priced at £8, will be launched at the Association’s coffee morning, being held in the Church Hall, Main Street, on Saturday, October 12.
Thereafter it will be available in local shops and from the author. For details see www.facebook.com/foggieloan. All profits will be used for projects to benefit the community.
