Huntly’s Gordon Schools to benefit from new partnership involving Powering Futures
High school pupils will be supported by a new partnership focusing that will give a focus to hands-on learning.
The partnership between Business Stream – the UK’s largest water retailer - and Powering Futures will give pupils at The Gordon Schools in Huntly access to a new school programme.
The programme will allow pupils to have hands-on learning to find a solution to a sustainability challenge set by the industry. Students will also get to the chance to develop skills in innovation, problem solving, networking and sustainability.
This initiative has been welcomed by Gordon Schools teacher Russell Wood.
He said: “Being partnered with Business Stream has added significant value to the young people’s experience of Powering Futures.
“With the Gordon Schools being so rural, having a business offer advice and expertise with such enthusiasm is a huge encouragement for our students.
“I am confident that our partnership with Business Stream will expand career options and increase opportunities for our Powering Futures students.”
Powering Futures was developed in 2020 to empower the young and future workforce to help the transition to net zero.
The programme will bring schools and businesses together, tasking S5 and S6 pupils to help solve sustainability problems - earning a SCQF Level 6 qualification.
Co-founder of Powering Futures David Reid said “The north-east region is crucial to the energy transition, and these students will play a vital role in delivering it.
“By helping build the bridge between business and education we can connect everyday people with the careers and jobs which will allow then to thrive.”
