Organisations from the Banff and Buchan area have been encouraged to apply.

An Aberdeenshire Council spokesman said: “Grants are available for up to 90 per cent of project cost with a minimum of £1000 and a maximum of £25,000.

“Applications may come from groups or organisations representing communities of interest as well as of place - for example wildlife or environmental, arts or wellbeing groups - and should reflect the different needs and requirements of each ‘Place’ and support activities that contribute to Aberdeenshire Council’s place and wellbeing outcomes.”

Project examples include those that:

• Help people to develop skills related to coastal or seafaring pursuits, activities or enterprises such as sailing, fishing or boatbuilding.

• Celebrate the heritage of coastal and seagoing communities of place and interest including coastal or fishing village or township, historic boatbuilding or relevant clubs or organisations.

• Improve access to coastal areas such as paths and viewpoints or which improve the coastal environment.

• Improve community-controlled infrastructure such as harbours, boathouses and buildings.

Visit the Aberdeenshire Council website for more information and details on how to apply.
